Worst Lies Writers Believe

Welcome back to Anasua’s creative zone. I am Anasua Ghosh. I am an author, reader, mentor, writing coach, and blogger. I mentor people to chase their dream of writing a book. So, if you are an aspiring writer who is looking for book writing ideas, you may find some useful tips here. In my creative zone, you will get writing tips, writing rants, writing frustrations, writing celebrations, and everything related to writing. If you have passion, I can help you cultivate it. Now, without further delay, let’s get started with today’s topic — the lies we tell ourselves (forgive the Jaime Lannister touch here).

Small Big Lies

Book writing ideas are easy to hunt down. You will get plenty of them when you are writing a book. However, when you start working on your book, you will find a series of lies confronting you. Some of these lies others will tell you, and some of these you will tell yourself. Believing these lies can mark the end of your writing career. So, be a little careful here. If you are not aware of the lies which we face every day, here is a list to entertain yourself.

Writing Needs Inspiration

Well, some writers are very particular about their muses. They are all very strict about writing inspiration as well. Frequently, inspiration leaves them. Their muses refuse to work for them. Frequently they find themselves in a tricky situation.

Believe them and you will head straight for failure in this industry. Inspiration is an unknown entity in our lives. Everyone speaks about it, but rarely any writer sees it. Even if we get inspired at the initial stage, while writing a book, the inspiration leaves us. So, don’t wait for your muse to present you with inspiration. Don’t wait for inspiration to gently nudge you towards the writing-table. Give your ass a hard kick and write every day. That’s how we finish writing our books.

Your Idea Has To Be Unique

This one is funny. People will come and tell you that your book idea has been used before. The truth is — every idea has been used before. But that does not mean you cannot write it. Even after the success of The Night Circus, Caraval has been released. Both the books are about circus but they differ in tone, voice, and theme. So, no two books are the same because no two writers are the same. Therefore, if you are writing about a book that features multiple kingdoms fighting for one throne, don’t give yourself hard times. You are not RR Martin, you will not end up writing another GOT. You will write something different because you have different life experiences.

Writers Are Poor

No, no, and fuck no. The days of poor creative people are gone. Now, writers manage to stay afloat no matter what. Yes, you may not earn a six-figure amount from the very first book. But there are ways to use your writing skill and earn money. If you want to stick around the game, you need to hunt down writing gigs while you are searching for book writing ideas. You gotta work your ass off, that’s for sure.

You Will Never Be As Good As ______ (fill out the gap)

Why do you even want to be? You are not _______ (fill out the gap). You are you. So, you cannot write like someone else. Don’t allow people to demotivate you. Don’t allow your inner editor to demotivate you either. Don’t try to write like ___. Try to work on your skill and get better every day.

Traditionally Published Writers Are The Real Writers

Well, it is another lie. You don’t have to be traditionally published to be called a writer. Fuck, you don’t even have to be published to be called a writer. If you are putting your pen down on paper every day, you are a writer. Go claim your worth now.

Editor/Critics Know Better

Umm well…no. They don’t. Critics are very generous. They give writing tips even when you are not looking for them. I am not against critics. But some critics criticize writers without any reason. You need to be careful of these people. The same goes for the editors. Some of them act like they have a point to prove. You just need to filter and attach people who provide constructive criticism and editing.

Lastly, never give up on your dream even if the entire world is telling you to stop. Never compromise with your writing time even if the world is partying outside. Be honest towards your craft, it will honor you by making you famous and wealthy.

With this I am gonna wrap it up, I will be back soon with more on writing.
